Artist's Statement
of Gail J. Frasier
My clay sculptures concern Nature and Change. It is change and growth, the possible effects of these over time, that interests me - pods on the verge of bursting with seeds; lichen growth on rocks; effects of ocean currents on shells; the tension between Earth’s tectonic plates; and, in a broader sense, the breakthrough moment of personal change and growth.
Now, after returning from two years in Peace Corps Jamaica, I am using Jamaican influences on my work such as the layers of the nutmeg. I am also exploring “Clean Lines” and how this can influence my work. I am excited to be back in the studio and anxious to see how maturing in my life will influence my work.
From 2007 to 2009 she and her husband served in U.S. Peace Corps Jamaica, where they worked in community development. In 2006, Frasier’s work was featured in two invitational shows; four publications, “Views” magazine, “Mountain Connection,” “Canyon Courier,” and “YourHub” newspapers. She is included in Evergreen – Our Mountain Community, Gene & Barbara Sternberg. In 1996, Frasier was instrumental in launching Arts Day and the Artist-in-Residence program at Wilmot Elementary School, Evergreen, CO. She has been an active member of the Evergreen Artists’ Association since 1980. Her work is represented in the Stephen Quiller Gallery, Creede, Co. Frasier was born in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1946 and graduated from the University of South Florida, 1968.
